    Checking the Pulse

Hello all, i am in the process of developing storyline and quest tie in for many of the new area that have been added as well as a new set of "Chain" quests (Think Rune Gun Quest). I would like to get the input of the community on some things---

Please rate the following Objective types 1-5 (1= I hate this kind of objective, 5= All day everyday)

    A) Gathering (plants, eggs,etc)
    B) Hunting
    C) Running (Going from npc to npc trekking across Iia)
    D) Spawned Fight
    E) Lair Fight (Rune Bosses)

How much of the history and lore of Iia (storyline) would you like to see in the quests? 1-5
How often would you log in to participate in storyline evolving events?
    1. Once a month
    2. Once a Week
    3. More than once a week
    4. Once a day or more.

Please add any comments you feel helpful, the more i know what you all want the more i can balance things so everyone is happy and involved with the game and quests. I'll check back in in about a week to get the Final results.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! =)

    Objective Types:
    A) Gathering 2
    B) Hunting 3
    C) Running 4
    D) Spawned Fights 4
    E) Lair Fights 4

Currently, gathering quests have little to nothing to do with any storyline. It's pretty much "Hey, get these plants/minerals for me, and I'll let you keep these extractors", or "Hey you, get me some eggs, kthxbai", and when you finish, "Ok, thanks, bye! Oh wait, take this ring that doesn't fit my finger! Now go away!" Then again, these really don't have much to do with the storyline. You can argue that most of these are just 'sidequests' that enable you to get miscellaneous items or extractors for trade skills, and don't really require a storyline. As far as hunting quests go, I'm immediately reminded of the main quests, given by Bo, Celeste, Strife, and Darius. As it is, the storyline is "Oh? You think you're good? Go get me some flobs. Prove your worth!" I believe these have to be tied in with a storyline more, being the quest that beginners are immediately subjected to upon leaving the NewbieZone, up to your 16th level. Running quests are helpful to beginners who are new to a map. They get a first-hand experience of traversing the corners of the map to talk to NPCs, and give them some knowledge of where certain landmarks and items are, at least, until an in-game map is implemented =) Spawned fights remind me of the SS quest - killing random mutated animals. Not much of a storyline there. However, there are some really important ones that require one, such as killing Crom, or Bo's brother, etc., etc. =) Lair fights should have more of a storyline as well. If they're important enough and strong enough to warrant their own lair, they should also have a deserving story behind them! =)

Overall, most quests are a mixture of these, which is good. However, there should be more of a pointer towards certain quests. Some quests are initiated by NPC's in the middle of nowhere - you just have to be lucky enough to find it and talk to it. The main quest, when you've reached the appropriate level, should point you towards these quests (gun quests in particular). The only quest that does this right now, I believe, is the Rune Gun quest. You could argue that Nero points to Chalis, but they're pretty much two parts in one long quest. Don't think anything points to Nero either. =\ Of course, you could argue that the higher level gun quests should be 'hidden quests', due to their rewards... Meh.

How much of the storyline would you like to see in the quests? 4. I'd say five, but sometimes, reading lines and lines of text is a bit much when you're being shot at by mobs in the background. =P 'Sidequests' also don't really need much.

Not sure what you mean by in-game storyline-evolving events, but I'd say either 3 or 4.

    C) 4 (if done well, i.e. Not making first quest be "Run across this area you know nothing about!")

As for storyline evolving events, once a week or once every two weeks would probably be best so people could be involved. Once a day might be a little hard to get players to do.

Also, as for gathering quests, the Oafronak quest actually has some gathering parts that actually make some sense. You have to gather a buttton of eggs and a few other stuff that go into the making of the Oaf for DNA or whatever else.

How often would you log in to participate in storyline evolving events?

    1a. Twice a month
If the Storyline was evolving Twice a Month or every two weeks, It would give the game a dynamic feel, Like what was going on, actually changed the way that the game is being made/played.

I'm In favor of more events, Even every week, but Storyline Events every week, or every day, would mess up the story IMO.

Good Job on making this. Everyone Should Participate.

    A) Gathering (plants, eggs,etc)::: about a 4 (so long as its not some high number....such as 20 dark jouster hearts for a level 2 sword)

    B) Hunting::: 4 (.....there realy is no quest in the entirety of the game that doesn't involve hunting in some part of the chain....)

    C) Running (Going from npc to npc trekking across Iia)::: 5 (its how you learn to get around not a great system for new guys but its what we got for now)

    D) Spawned Fight::: 3 (...sometimes gets annoying when they pop up right behind you

    E) Lair Fight (Rune Bosses)::: 4 (personally think that it helps seperate you from other mobs that would get in the way)

as for a story line about once a week if you get though quests quick enough
GreenDeath.......wielder of the poker of doom
    Dude.......the pale one
    spanky......the fat one

How often would you log in to participate in storyline evolving events?

Twice a week - i choose this because i think that having a storyline event would be too much if it was once a week, too much goin on in one month lol this way we can do our quests and stuff for a couple weeks, then run into an NPC that talks about a storyline event saying something like, "(such and such 'HUGE' monster is planning on attacking IIA on Friday, please help us defeat this 'HUGE' monster before he destroys IIA" <---that would be pretty cool! ^_^ just make sure the NPC doesnt ACTUALLY come out and say "join this event," make it sound like its just part of the storyline =) that would be really fun and enjoyable! (imagines tons of us players flying around trying to shoot down a huge moster with like 10 million HP LOL woot!)

I'll just give input on the aspect that I feel the game has always needed, and that's a storyline. Without it, the game was just a bunch of quests (which were still entertaining). It seemed as though there was a clear division between the game's storyline and the storyline of each quest. When quests are being written, questions like where, why, who (how many people to do the quest), where, etc. must be asked in order to make each quest flow smoothly from one to another.
    Boom.

An oragins Questline would be good. a quest that resulted in getting a usefull protection amulet.. note i said usefull. Like 10% damage reduction or something. that has you go all over the place talking to the various races and doing a few fights that fills in the backstory of IIA. Where the races came from. Maybe answers where the Blobs and frogs came from and why they were at war. Among other things.

When you think about it, IIA is a lot like the Earthsea saga. Being afterlife based and yet with real physical bodies and monsters and a "planet".
