Thread: End of an era

This morning was the final night launch of the shuttle. Later this year the program is scheduled to end. I'd love to get down to Kennedy Space Center to witness one of these launches before they pull the plug on it.

We are in the beginning of a 10-20 year Cooling trend. By the time we actually did real damage to the atmosphere our technology will have long since evolved. They have not been keeping track of global temperatures long enough to make any of the claims they make. The whole Earth has changed dramatically over time.

Its all about control people.. its all about control.

Well I'm hoping for a warming trend soon. All this cold bs is startin to get on my nerves. Wake me up when the sun is shining warmth again.

When will the world realize that we need an international space organization... like the UN but for space!
Seriously... no one country has that kinda money to keep it up, or the biggest projects for that matter... hell even the Pheonix project was made up of equipment that was 80% non-american(and I don't mean like parts made in china, I mean that the equipment, such as the canadian weather system) ... yet still each country tries to do it on their own for the most part.

hmm but when our tech evolves we refuse to use it either from hatred of change or the influences of big business (if this wasn't true we'd all be using nuclear power right now)

I could be wrong here but wasn't it reported that the ozone layer is rebuilding itself despite all the pollution and such that we continuously put into the air? Which could be evidence that there is a global temperature change in a cycling period. Im not closed minded in anyway but this is what I recall, and honestly there is so much stuff hidden from us by the government that its a hard call to make a decision on whats happening.

Even if the ozone layer is repairing itself, I always fail to see the reasoning that it's okay to shove more pollution up there to poke holes in it. Your bodies fix themselves too but you don't see many people pulling **** like nailing their hands to the wall (sanitarily of course) for fun even though your hand will repair itself.

as for the ozone repairing itself its always replensihing itself but the ammount of chlorine up there has yet to reach its max so theres no way it can outpace it yet........maybe another 50 years it will be on the road to recovery......(and thats just my shot in the dark guess on timeline.......) and yes there is a fact of that the climate goes through shifts of hot and cold........but its never been this hot for so long.......and the sun is on its low output phase even......just wait a few years when its at its 11 year peak and then say that its not warming up.....

Well if the magnetic field goes away, we end up like Mars more or less, with a lot of cancer before we all die.

Simple solution. Stop War, put that money into space exploration, boom, we are in space =p.
The USA spends sooooo much more money on war then they do Space.
But... There wouldent be a US without a military, but then again, there are countries we shouldent even be in...

There is actually a conspiracy theory that the US government has a project that is capable of controlling weather, and that the government is building and has many bunkers to protect the higher class of people. I'm not saying this is at all true I am just saying there are ideas floating around and that some may be true. And I do agree that humanity is too stupid to do important things, but as stated there are religions out there that have radical beliefs that wont let anything happen. Everything wrong in this world is because of humans, but humans don't do anything to change it (or most don' try, but even then the few people that do fail pretty badly without the support of others) :/ oh well.

The US spends money on war for a reason. right or wrong agree with it or not it all started becuase of WWII and ever since there has been a group of people at the top that said never again.

We actually had virtually no standing military prior to WWII. Not the way we do today. People were still scarred by the civil war. Within one Year after Pearl Harbor we had a freaking HUGE army and turned all of our attention and technology to Weapons. the rest is history.

People forget, and its no longer taught in schools but if it was not for the USA this whole world would have been screwed and looked very different today.

mmmmm What schools are your kids being sent to? Ones that teach the South won the civil war? Cause I went to public school (and only got out a year ago, and am still going to a public university) and we spent god knows how long on WWII.

hehe cobra........the only reason i said that was to point out that it has very little to do with what i said last.....if i were to even allow my opinions to be infuences by that biased bull.... id kick my own ass.....i saw that on the site a few years ago and just let it stew in my own mind.........what i said on the magnetic issues with the planet are based on 2 things.........1 its steadily gone down ......2 its never happened in recorded history.....that was the most i could get from the article that was least likely to be tainted by people.....the rest is just off the top of my skull and could have absolutely insignificant standing on what could/will happen......hell the sun go blow up before it happens.....or a giant chunk of whatever hits us.......WHO KNOWS......i think i just sidetracked my mind..........and just to let you know even if i belived the stupidity that cnn puts out often....i never.....NEVER base my infomation off just one site...............

Not necessarily the end yet, they will be designing a new more efficient shuttle scheduled to launch atleast 5 years from now, mainly due to how outdated and safer these shuttles could be. but yes, its definately something everyone should witness atleast once in their lifetime. It'll be a long time before we see anything else like it.

Really? First I've heard of that. I know they have two heavy load rockets they are testing now that are capable of lifting twice as much weight as the shuttle carries, and completely out of Earth's gravitational field...for going to the Moon and Mars. These are HUGE rockets like the Saturn V, as tall as a 35 story building. But they are reusable.
